Biography

Madam Helen Oshodi was born some 72 years ago into the great familiy of Pa and Mrs Samuel IWASEPELETU of ljebu- Owo, Ondo State. She was bon into an average family and her upbringing was a mixture of good education, character and discipline. No doubt she was an embodiment of honour, discipline and character. She was a paragon of beauty and a great personality. Mama was so lucky to have had western education unlike her peers in those days. She started her primary school education in the northern part of the country. For her secondary education, she had a brief stint at the Adeyeri Comprehensive Secondary School, lyere, Owo; and in 1964 she was transferred to New Church Grammar School, Owo where she eventually completed her post-primary education in 1968 in flying colors. Young and humble Madam Modupe's incurable quest for higher education took her to the old Teacher's Training College, Akure where she obtained her Grade Il Certificate in 1982. The ambitious and vibrant madam Modupe immediately got employed as an Auxiliary Teacher but in 1984 her appointment was regularized by the state government as a full-fledged classroom teacher. The determined and hard-working mama worked in various primary schools as primary teacher until she retired as a head mistress. As a paragon of beauty, she was full of life and warmth but with discipline, hospitality and unique traits of humility, submissiveness and respect. These sterling qualities aside her mercurial talents attracted her to her first love and heartthrob, Chief Owolabi Oshodi. The relationship led to marriage and was blessed with two great children and four grandchildren. One of the children is the worthy ambassador of Owo kingdom and an astute politician, Dr Abiola Oshodi, a Medical Doctor who lives in Canada and his sister Mrs Bukola Oluwi (Nee Oshodi) a Chartered Accountant based in the United Kingdom. However, Dupe as she was fondly called by her first husband, Pa Oshodi, remarried much later to Chief Babatunde Samuel Oshuporu from the renowned Oshuporu  Aghegrun Family of Owo. Her second marriage just like the previous one, was blessed with three successful children and three grandchildren. Sensing that her meagre salary as a classroom teacher might not be adequate for the upkeep and training of her children to the enviable heights of her lofty dreams, she diversified and ventured into trading in varieties of farm produce including, but not limited to yam, banana, cassava and grains. She was also into the buying and selling of gold necklaces. The proceeds derived from the trades, she used to cater for her children by supporting the family. As an easy-going woman of greater proportion, Mama loved not only her children but those of others who crossed paths with her. She gave freely as a generous woman not minding if what was left would be enough to cater for her own children. Mama was a devoted Christian who was an outstanding member of the Living Foundation Gospel Church, Owo. Even age and ill health could not stop her from participating in all the church activities. The testimonies of members of the church often pointed to the fact that lye Biola was a good woman and a disciplined wife She was a perfect example of an ideal mother; a seasoned teacher and a worthy leader/mentor till her last breath. With her legacies of good will and rare footprints she has left on the sands of time, Mama Modupe Helen shall be greatly missed by the people especially her children and her grandchildren. She is survived by five children, and seven grand children. Adieu Mama, our Jewel of inestimable value.
